WARDOGS on an RTX 2080 Ti · AM4 stays

Read this as

Don't buy the chip yet

Don't buy the 5800X3D yet

Defer the 5800X3D; measure first

Spend nothing first. Add -nogpucrashdebugging, turn the Steam overlay off, and write the frame rate down. A much newer computer with this same graphics card was still only drawing about 100 watts in WARDOGS, at about 80 to 90 frames a second.1

The processor you were looking at costs about AUD 545 to 549 in Australian shops, as at 11 October 2026.7 Someone who already owns that chip and a 2080 Ti only said the game felt smooth afterwards. They never posted a new number.3

This pick is an inference, not a measurement. It loses on an old Ryzen that is already flat out in your other games. It would change if a proper test showed the graphics card waking up. One research report contradicted the posts we opened, and the frame rate after the fix was never measured. There is no published benchmark for how many frames the chip adds.

Don't buy the Ryzen 7 5800X3D yet. The cost-effective move, as at 11 October 2026, is $0: add -nogpucrashdebugging, disable the Steam overlay, and write the FPS down.

On a 9800X3D the same RTX 2080 Ti still sits near 100 W and about 80 to 90 FPS at 1440p, and the picture settings barely move it.1 The chip itself is AUD 545 to 549 at the shops we checked, or AUD 512.10 on one eBay listing.7 A person who already had the 5800X3D and this card called the fixed game buttery smooth and left out the number.3

This is an inference, not a measurement. It is weaker if your other games are already waiting on a first- or second-generation Ryzen. A panel report contradicted the posts; we could not confirm a post-fix FPS; that rate was never measured; there is no published benchmark of the upgrade on this card.

Inference, not a measurement. Overall rank 1: defer the 5800X3D. Cost of the pick is $0, set against an asking cluster of AUD 545 to 549 on 11 October 2026 (one listing at AUD 512.10).7

The load-bearing observation is AtomSky's: 9800X3D + RTX 2080 Ti + 32 GB DDR5-6000, about 80 to 90 FPS, Low versus Max about 0 to 10 FPS, native 1440p and DLSS Performance basically flat, GPU near 100 W and 45 C using 6 to 7 GB of 11 GB, CPU not saturated.1 P_Jilla already owned the 5800X3D and a 2080 Ti, dipped to 47 FPS, then reported max 1440p as smooth with no new FPS.3

It loses on a saturated Ryzen 1000 or 2000 in other titles. It would change if power draw rose off about 100 W under a same-card, flags-off, overlay-off test. Gemini's about-90 FPS reading is contradicted by the posts. We could not confirm the post-fix rate. It was never measured. There is no published benchmark. Low confidence on any percent gain.

Spend $0, then branch on what you measure Start: keep the 2080 Ti. Then flag on and overlay off, labelled $0. Then write the FPS down. The decision asks whether the card is busy or other games are stuck. Yes leads to a box reading different job, not this page's buy. No leads to a box reading leave the chip. YES NO Keep the 2080 Ti Flag on. Overlay off. $0 Write the FPS down. Card busy, or other games stuck? Leave the chip. Different job. Not this page's buy.
The outlined box is the free step. After you write the number down, a busy card or other games that are already stuck are the only fork. One accent: the $0 step. Yes is a different job. No leaves the chip. Flowchart of the deferral. The accent is the $0 action. Shape marks start, step and decision. This is an inference. 1 6 7

Written for someone who keeps an AM4 board, DDR4, and an RTX 2080 Ti, and whose CPU is an older AM4 chip rather than an X3D already. Budget, target FPS, and whether the flag is already on are unknown. The 7600X3D on one video overlay is not treated as your CPU.

The graphics card is having a quiet day

The 2080 Ti is waiting, even on a 9800X3D

AtomSky, 16 September 2026: about 100 W at 80 to 90 FPS

AtomSky's 2080 Ti in WARDOGS About 100 watts, 80 to 90 FPS, near 45 degrees, and 6 to 7 of 11 GB. Settings moved FPS by 0 to 10. Full-load board power was not measured. WARDOGS · RTX 2080 Ti · ONE REPORT ~100 W 80–90 ~45°C 6–7 of 11 GB · settings moved FPS by 0–10 · FULL LOAD NOT MEASURED
One player's graphics card, the same model as yours, drawing about 100 watts while the game ran at about 80 to 90 frames a second. The yellow line marks that a reading exists. It is not a share of the card's full power. We never measured that. AtomSky's 2080 Ti in WARDOGS: about 100 W, about 80 to 90 FPS, near 45 C, 6 to 7 GB of 11 GB. The stroke is a presence mark, not a percent of board power. Full-load watts were not measured. Single-sourced instrument reading from AtomSky. No wattmeter of our own, and no TDP scale, because a board-power page was not opened. Do not read the stroke as percent load. 1

Think of the graphics card as a tap that is barely open. The game is asking for a trickle, so a bigger pump on the processor side does not fill the bucket faster. Turning the picture quality from low to max only changed the frame rate by about 0 to 10, and DLSS Performance looked the same as drawing every pixel.1

That machine is already past the CPU you would be buying. DDR5, a 9800X3D, and the card still is not busy. If settings and DLSS mode do not move FPS, the bottleneck is not "needs a 5800X3D".1

It is one person, with no log file. Low confidence would be fair if a second 2080 Ti had shown the opposite. The other 2080 Ti reports below do not.

Quoted from the thread, fetched HTTP 200 on 11 October 2026: high utilisation at about 100 W is compatible with a GPU that is resident and not shader-bound. We could not confirm a cause. ReBAR and PCIe generation were both floated in the panel and neither was established, so they are not the finding.1

Someone already bought the chip

The 5800X3D owner still had no number

P_Jilla: 47 FPS, then "smooth", and not 90

Before, 1440p

47

FPS dip. Mostly medium, DLSS Balanced, on a 5800X3D and a 2080 Ti.

After flag and overlay

No FPS

Called smooth at max 1440p. The number was never written.

47 is the only frame rate they wrote. The hatched tile is the later post, which has no number. Before: dips to 47 FPS. After: no FPS written. The hatch is the gap. t3_1wsb54y records 47. t3_1ww4z99 records no FPS. The post-fix rate was never measured. 2 3

P_Jilla had 32 GB of memory at 3000, a 2080 Ti, a 5800X3D and an SSD. At 1440p, mostly medium, with DLSS Balanced, the game still dropped to 47 frames a second.2

They then turned on -nogpucrashdebugging and turned the Steam overlay off at the same time. Max settings at 1440p felt smooth. They said they did not know which change helped.3 A research report later called that about 90. The posts contradict it. We could not confirm a new frame rate, because it was never measured.

This is the closest machine to the one in your plan. Before the flag: dips to 47 FPS at 1440p, mostly medium, DLSS Balanced, on a 5800X3D and a 2080 Ti.2

After the flag and the overlay, together: "buttery smooth" at max 1440p, no FPS, no DLSS mode named.3 Gemini's report contradicted those posts by putting the fixed run near 90 FPS. We could not confirm that. It was never measured. There is no published benchmark hiding behind the adjective.

Arctic Shift, 11 October 2026, t3_1wsb54y and t3_1ww4z99. www.reddit.com had returned 403 in an earlier fetch, so the text is from Arctic Shift and the links below are the public posts. Body one names 47 FPS. Body two names dips to 40 FPS that survived resolution, DLSS and potato settings, then both changes, then the adjective.23

A search of both bodies finds no "90". The panel figure is contradicted. Post-fix FPS was never measured. We could not confirm it. Low confidence on any reconstructed number, including ones that circulated as "doubles".

A replyGTX 1660 TiNot stated45 to 50 in a hot zone, then 60-plus average

The switch is real on other computers. About 50 became about 75 to 90 for someone who never said which parts they own.6 A 2080 Super jumped further, and the picture settings jumped with it, so that test is muddy. A 1660 Ti gained a smaller bit. None of those is your card. The 2080 Ti result was never measured here.

One reply says the switch also stops crash clues going back to the developers. That story is unverified. We could not confirm it. Low confidence, and it is single-sourced. Still worth knowing before you leave it on.

BSD, 24 September 2026, hardware unstated: about 50 FPS to 75 to 90 depending on location.6 The 13600K and 2080 Super row changed DLSS mode and settings in the same breath, so it is not a clean before-and-after. The 1660 Ti went from 45 to 50 to a 60-plus average. Filter the table to 2080 Ti and the table goes empty.

A comment claims the flag stops GPU crash reports. Treat that mechanism as unverified. We could not confirm it. It was never measured. The FPS lines do not depend on it. There is no published benchmark of the flag on a 2080 Ti.

Primary text, not the panel's paraphrase. BSD's own sentence is the 50 to 75-90 line. The 2080 Super sentence names both the settings change and the FPS change. The 1660 Ti sentence keeps the author's spelling ("HZ", "avrage").6

The telemetry comment is single-sourced and low confidence. An Intel support article about a driver stutter was fetched and returned HTTP 403, so that claim is not used. A "90 to 170" line on a fansite was not confirmed in the page we opened. Both stay out. The flag's effect on a 2080 Ti was never measured. We could not confirm a PCIe-debug mechanism a panel member suggested. The reports disagree on the cause; the posts do not establish one.

Ryzen 7 5700X3DNo credible price. The three hits were AUD 87.45, AUD 1,291.07 and AUD 2,012.31.
Ryzen 7 5700X (the shop page's chip)Not priced here. It is a different part from either X3D.

Keeping the old motherboard is the appeal, and the chip that does that is about AUD 545.7 The cheaper 3D version does not get a recommendation, because we could not confirm a real shelf price.8

The game's own page asks for a Ryzen 7 5700X and an RTX 3070 if you want 1440p medium above 70, drawn natively. It never mentions your 2080 Ti, and it does not say X3D.5 A used price band of AUD 450 to 550 in one report is contradicted by the shops we opened. That band was never measured against sold listings we could see.

As at 11 October 2026 the 5800X3D 10th Anniversary edition clusters at AUD 545 to 549, with a floor of AUD 512.10.7 PGrid's 5700X3D page does not contain a credible asking price, so "buy the cheaper one" does not qualify.8

Steam's recommended AMD CPU is a 5700X, paired with an RTX 3070 or an RX 6700 XT, for 1440p medium above 70 FPS native.5 That is the studio's target. It was never measured as a lab scene. One panel's used-price band is contradicted by this catalogue. We could not confirm a platform-exit quote either, so none is printed. There is no published benchmark that turns AUD 545 into a frame rate.

PGrid 5800X3D, HTTP 200, meta text "18 offers ... from AUD 512.10". Retail rows named above are the 10th Anniversary listings at 545, 547 and 549. Higher rows (bundles, a non-anniversary title at 719, an Amazon outlier) are excluded rather than averaged.7

5700X3D page, same day: three rows only.8 Store recommended line is verbatim Ryzen 7 5700X, not 5700X3D.5 xAI's AUD 450 to 550 used band is contradicted by the live asks; the eBay search URL itself returned 403 and is not a source. B650, DDR5 and Ryzen 7600 bundle maths from the panel were not re-checked against shops, so they are omitted. Low confidence on any cost-per-frame. The FPS return was never measured. We could not confirm a 5700X3D sold price of AUD 496 that arrived as an unresolved redirect.

These are separate tests. The first group is 1440p. The single tile is 1080p on low, so it is a different setup. 1440p and 1080p are split. 66.3 is the video log at low and DLSS Performance. P_Jilla's later post has no FPS. Tiles, with no shared axis. AtomSky 80 to 90, ovhq 60 to 70, P_Jilla 47, video average 66.3 at 1080p low. Post-fix FPS unmeasured. 9 4 1 2 3

A long video did log a 2080 Ti at 66.3 frames a second. The tester said that run was 1080p, low detail, DLSS Performance. It is not a 1440p result, so it is not the number to beat with a new processor.9

Another 2080 Ti, with an Intel processor, sat around 60 to 70 at 1440p and low settings did nothing. That post never mentions DLSS. Other games on that PC were fine.4 Nobody has published the test that would rank your old processor against a 5800X3D on this card. We could not confirm one. There is no published benchmark.10

The video's 2080 Ti average is 66.3 FPS: 189,784 frames in 2,861.203 seconds, spoken as 1080p low and DLSS Performance.9 The CPU on that log was not established. A corner overlay in a different moment showed a 7600X3D; those two are not paired here. Low confidence on the min and max; the OCR was shaky, so they are left out.

ovhq's 11700K and 2080 Ti hard-cap around 60 to 70 at 2560x1440, GPU near 86 percent, DLSS unmentioned, while CS2 hits 300.4 Perplexity, read in full, could not cite Hardware Unboxed, Gamers Nexus, TechPowerUp, ComputerBase or Igor's Lab on this game.10 That absence was never measured as proof no test exists. There is no published benchmark of the CPU step on a 2080 Ti. We could not confirm one.

OCR of Benchmark.txt in mHqU3lgxuOc: 11-09-2026 13:02:14, WardogsClient-Win64-Shipping.exe, 189784 frames, 2861.203 s, average 66.3 FPS. Spoken wrap-up agrees on 1080p low and DLSS Performance. Reflex, VSync and fullscreen were not verified and are not stated. The 7600X3D overlay is a different frame and is not assigned to the log.9

ovhq: i7-11700K, 2560x1440, about 60 to 70, low and potato inert, about 86 percent GPU, VSync and G-Sync off, PiP and GI off, DLSS not mentioned, other titles 120 to 300.4 The lab gap is the Perplexity report's own statement, not a fresh search of every outlet on 11 October.10 A 40 to 70 percent GPU step-up in that report was about other games and is not used for WARDOGS. We could not confirm a same-card ladder. It was never measured. No published benchmark. The two 2080 Ti player reports disagree with a "buy a CPU" story; they do not contradict each other on the card being under-drawn.

What to do instead

Three situations, and a pick in each

Verdict layer: three categories, fewer than three picks

Each box is an inference, not a measurement. Fewer than three choices is the honest count. We do not pad a third.

These are inferences, not measurements. A category we could not price does not get a fake third place.

kind=inference on every pick. Ranked inside the way a buyer actually splits, not down a spec sheet.

This week, if the complaint is WARDOGS

1. The free switch, then a number

1. Flag, overlay off, write the FPS

this-week · rank 1 · $0

Do the launch flag and the overlay, then write the average and the worst dip. Settings are second, and weaker: on this card they have not bought many frames.6

Rank 1 is the flag plus the overlay, cost $0. Rank 2 is dropping settings, and it loses on AtomSky's 0 to 10 FPS gap. Do rank 2 after you have a number, not instead of one.1

v-flag from c-bsd, c-bsd-other, c-pjilla-after, c-debug-trade. v-settings from c-atom and c-ovhq. No third pick: a GPU purchase is not "this week", and it was never measured in this game.6

If you still want the drop-in processor

Don't pay about AUD 545 yet

Don't buy at AUD 545 to 549

the-chip · rank 1 · defer

The chip that keeps your motherboard is the expensive one this week, and the cheaper 3D chip has no real price. Wait until your own number says the processor is the problem.7

The pick is to not buy. It is not the pick if a later 5700X3D listing is actually cheap and your other games are the ones suffering. For WARDOGS on this GPU, the trade is money against an unmeasured gain.8

v-chip from c-price, c-unpriced, c-atom, c-pjilla-before, c-store. Official AMD recommendation remains the non-X3D 5700X.5 Cost-per-frame is undefined, so it is not printed.

If the other games are the reason

Keep this card for this game anyway

A new platform is for the rest of the library

other-games · rank 1 · low confidence

A much newer PC with this same card was still quiet in WARDOGS. If your other games are slow, that is a different job, and this page did not price a new motherboard. Low confidence on which chip to buy for those games.1

Keep the 2080 Ti for WARDOGS either way. A 9800X3D did not busy it.1 Leaving AM4 was not priced, and a used faster GPU had no dated listing and no WARDOGS test, so neither ships as a pick. It is worse as advice the moment your log shows the card at a full load.

v-library from c-atom, c-ovhq, c-nolab. Low confidence. ovhq's other titles already run at 120 to 300 FPS on a 11700K, which is a hint that "the library" and "this game" are different constraints.4 No B650 or DDR5 quote was verified, so no platform-exit rank.

What would make the chip the right buy

What would change the pick

Falsifier for the deferral

Buy the processor if you write the number down twice, flags off and overlay off, and the graphics card's power climbs well past the about-100-watt reading while an older processor is clearly the slow part. A game patch that makes DLSS mode change the frame rate would change it too. Until then the $0 step is the one that can still surprise you.

The pick loses on this: if your current Ryzen is a very old one and your other games are already stuck on it, waiting does nothing for those games. That downside is real, and it is not a WARDOGS measurement.1

The pick would change on a same-card test, launch flag off and overlay off, where the older CPU's average or the bad dips are clearly worse and the 2080 Ti's draw rises off about 100 W. A patch that makes the DLSS mode move FPS would change it too.

What it loses on: a first- or second-generation Ryzen that is already the limit in other games. Deferring the chip does not help those. It is not the pick if that is the job.7

Falsifier: same RTX 2080 Ti, DLSS mode named, -nogpucrashdebugging off, Steam overlay off, older AM4 against a 5800X3D, average and 1% low both recorded, and board power leaving the about-100 W regime AtomSky reported. Or a shipping patch after which Low versus Max, or DLSS mode, moves FPS on this GPU.

The recommendation loses on non-WARDOGS CPU limits. It falls short as a whole-PC plan. It would change under the test above, and it is not the pick if you have already logged a busy card.1

How this page was made

Methods, cost, and what failed

Five research helpers were asked. Three wrote reports, and those three were read all the way through. Two never produced one: one could not connect, and one was the wrong program, so it was not asked again. The bill recorded for the run was about US$6.44, an estimate, on 11 October 2026. The plan had guessed about US$6.20.

Where the reports disagreed about a fact, the page was opened. P_Jilla's posts do not say 90. The shop prices were read off the page, not copied from a summary. A picture search of real websites for the layout did not connect, so that pass did not happen. There is no 3D model, because the evidence is a number. The little picture in the corner is a page mark, not a finished Mac icon review. The pictures use the same colours as the rest of the page. Tests that were not run the same way sit in separate tiles. A missing number is a hatched gap.

Dossier panel dr_ba609c9ec2fb552c, fast tier, no provider pin, X search on for the xAI seat. xAI (grok-4.3), Perplexity (sonar-deep-research) and Gemini (deep-research) completed. Local Claude failed with connection refused. Local agy refused to start because the binary's version string was not Antigravity's. Both failed seats were left at $0 and were not retried. Committed estimate US$6.44 of a US$100 day cap, against a US$6.20 plan band. Two extra US$0.08 utility lines sat on the completed seats. Costs are estimates committed at the start, not an invoice.

The three reports were exported and read in full before this page was written. A merged summary was not used as the draft. Citation checks had already flagged one GitHub tool as a 404; its FPS claims are omitted. Gemini's grounding redirects were not treated as sources. Mobbin's connection failed, and a five-frame look at other sites for the visual was not run. dataviz is not installed here. The pictures use this page's colours, and there is no diagram-design profile. Frame rates from different tests are separate tiles, not one axis. The watt mark stays a presence mark, not a percent of board power. three.js was rejected: the six tests for a spatial claim do not pass. The icon is a hand-drawn meter glyph for the index. The three-engine icon commission was not run.

Environment for the artifact checks: macOS, 11 October 2026. Steam threads and the store page returned HTTP 200. PGrid both CPU pages returned HTTP 200. Arctic Shift returned both P_Jilla selftexts. Intel's driver article returned HTTP 403 and is unused. The YouTube average is from an earlier OCR of the on-screen Benchmark.txt in this same session, not from a panel member.

Slug chosen as underdrawn rather than stopping for a naming vote: the other candidates were parked and dropin, and the argument does not change with the word. The index row was added to ~/Dev/dossier/index.html, which is the working copy. home/index.html is the path the skill names and it is not in that tree. The page is published at underdrawn.fledgeling.app. The figures use the page's own colours. There is no diagram-design profile. FPS logs from different tests are not drawn on one axis.

Reports on disk: xAI, Perplexity, Gemini. What this page could not establish: your CPU, your budget, your target FPS, whether the flag is already set, a 2080 Ti board-power figure, a credible 5700X3D ask, a same-card ladder, and any FPS for P_Jilla after the fix.
